Social Services Minister Anne Ruston has outed a number of organisations who have not joined the National Redress Scheme which seeks to provide reparations to people who experienced institutional child sexual abuse. The Boys’ Brigade NSW, Lakes Entrance Pony Club, Jehovah's Witnesses, Fairbridge Restored Limited, and Kenja Communications have not submitted notices of intention to join the scheme. Ms Ruston said the five organisations refusing to join the program had “tainted” what had otherwise been a great success and had left a number survivors without a means to claim reparations. Approximately 224 non-government and government organisations have joined the program which currently covers 51,000 sites. “It is so important for them to get closure,” Ms Ruston told Sky News host Peter gleeson Refusing to join the scheme “is a real slap in the face for survivors”.
