FOOTBALL: A move from defence to attack has paid dividends for youngster Jaryd Bennier and Brothers Aston Villa.

A hat-trick to the attacking midfielder has helped his side progress to the fifth preliminary round of the FFA Cup with a 4-2 win over The Waves.

Deadlocked at 1-1 at half-time the side scored three goals to eliminate their rivals from the tournament.

They were also aided by a controversial red card to The Waves captain Mick Coleman for a late challenge in the first half.

Forced to play the second half with 10 men the side ran out of legs as Villa won.

Villa coach Glen Sparozvich said the side did well to stay composed.

"Even with 10 players they pushed us all the way,” Sparozvich said.

"The conditions weren't ideal for football but our decision making was great.”

Sparozvich said Bennier was also the stand-out.

"He's got a few goals since we moved him from left back to attack,” he said.

"He's scored some freakish goals in training so it was good to see him deliver in a match day.”

The Waves coach Jason De Papi was disappointed to be out and conceded he didn't think Coleman deserved a red card.

He was pleased the team never gave up.

"Boys should be proud of their effort,” he said.

"Our two goals showed our training is being put into practice.”

Villa plays either Doon Villa or United Warriors on April 8 after their match was washed out.
