Young family counting last months together
THE 23-year-old fiancee of a terminally ill Bundaberg man says she wants to spend their final months together as man and wife.
Tyrone Rowe is riddled with cancer and doctors have said he has only three months to live.
His fiancee Maria McNaught has been left heartbroken as struggles to explain to their three-year-old child that his daddy will leave them shortly.
In a bid to ease their financial hardship and save for his funeral, the family is attempting to raise money though People Pledge.
Mr Rowe was diagnosed with stage 4 lymphoma in 2010. Their son Zion was just five months old.
In early 2012, doctors said Mr Rowe was in remission.
But to the shock of all, he fell sick again later that year.
"They said it had spread into his lungs and his liver - they said it was terminal," Miss McNaught said.
She said that while medical professionals had said while they could not predict exactly how long her partner had left, it was less than three months.
"He's had two seizures. We fear he might not make it a month," she said.
Miss McNaught said while their time together was limited they both wanted the same thing.
"We just want to spend the rest of the days we have left together as his wife," she said.
Miss McNaught said they had always dreamed of marrying on the beach.
But the family was suffering financial hardship with Miss McNaught caring for Mr Rowe and Zion full-time.
"The cheapest way possible for us (to get married) was to go to a courthouse," she said.
"But we wanted family there, we wanted a proper wedding."
The couple will marry on Bargara Beach next weekend.
Miss McNaught said it had torn her apart watching her soulmate deteriorate.
"It's hard knowing some time he's going to be taken from us."
Miss McNaught said her fiance was unable to play with their son anymore.
"My son cries every night about his dad," she said.
Mr Rowe has undergone two rounds of chemotherapy, but won't take any more.
"It makes him sick and the doctors said it won't do much for his - the cancer has spread to his brain," Miss McNaught said.
