Bundy hosts youth cricket carnival

MORE than 100 of the best young cricketers from Queensland and Northern Territory will descend on Bundaberg today.

They are here to compete in the Bundaberg Cricket Association 2010 Under 15 Development Carnival.

Teams from Brisbane, Sunshine Coast, Gold Coast and Northern Territory arrived in Bundaberg yesterday and will take part in the tournament at Salter Oval.

Yesterday it was all smiles at Salter Oval as the teams gathered for a barbeque but the intensity is expected to heat up today when the sides take the pitch.

The teams have been separated into two pools, playing three matches before the finals on Thursday and Friday.

The road to the finals will not be easy for Bundaberg, who face Brisbane North, Gold Coast and Sunshine Coast in their pool.

In the other pool Northern Territory, Darling Downs, Metropolitan South-West and South East Queensland will go head-to-head.

Bundaberg will start its campaign this morning against Brisbane North on the main oval.

In the same pool Gold Coast will take on the Sunshine Coast while in the other pool Darling Downs will start its campaign with a match against a Northern Territory team that has travelled a long way and will be desperate to make the most of this opportunity.

South East Queensland and the Metropolitan South West will square off against each other in what is sure to be an interesting match-up.

The competition will be a chance for the development of players from around Queensland.

Players who were selected in the recent state or schoolboys championships are ineligible for the development carnival.

Each team will have one innings of 55 overs in the match.

Today’s Draw

Pool A:

Bundaberg v Brisbane North

Gold Coast v Sunshine Coast

Pool B:

Darling Downs v Northern Territory

South East Queensland v Metropolitan South West
