'You'd better watch your back': Roma man breaches DVO

A ROMA man has been convicted for breaching a domestic violence order and community-based order by making threats over the phone when the aggrieved called him earlier this month.

The man, who cannot be named for legal reasons, faced Roma Magistrates Court on Wednesday charged with contravention of a domestic violence order and contravention of a community-based order from Probation and Parole Services.

The court was told the man received a phone call from the aggrieved on December 29 2015 , where an argument broke out between the two.

"The defendent called her a s***, a b****, and said 'she deserved everything [she] got' and made the threat 'you better watch your back,'" Police Prosecutor Sergeant Shannon Bryce said.

"That matter was reported to Police, and as a result of that the defendent attended the Roma Police station at a later date, during which he made admissions about the offence."

Corrective Services Officer Jason Ditchburn said the defendant had a mixed response to his probation order, having only attended 3 classes with support services.

"Recently he has been referred to Centacare for domestic violence counselling, but has only attended 3 classes in the last 4 weeks," he said.

Solicitor Leslee Reed said her client had previously told the aggrieved that the relationship was over, and had not contacted her since the order was made in 2015.

Magistrate Peter Hasted fined the defendant a total of $1000 for the breaches and placed him on a community service order.
