Yeppoon man a murder suspect

A 41-YEAR-OLD Yeppoon man is under police guard in hospital, after police yesterday launched a murder investigation, following the death of a Gladstone man.

The 45-year-old man died on Saturday at a Ferguson Crescent home, but his death was not considered suspicious until yesterday morning.

He was found in his bedroom with no visible signs of trauma at 10.30am.

Post-mortem results revealed the man had met foul play and a full-scale investigation began early yesterday.

Regional crime co-ordinator Detective Inspector Jon Wacker said police enquiries led them to a fishing hut, at Ross Creek, near Yeppoon, about midday.

“A 41-year-old man was located inside suffering from self-inflicted injuries,” he said.

The fishing hut was swamped by detectives, uniformed officers and scenes of crime police for the remainder of the day.

Inspector Wacker said the man was taken to Rockhampton Hospital in a serious condition for treatment, where he remained under police guard.

He said the man was in an unconscious state and officers had not been able to interview him.

As a result, no charges have been laid.

Inspector Wacker said they would interview the man as soon as possible, pending medical advice.

The victim’s name has not been released.
