Year 12 Student wants to see more opportunities in home town
FOR Mundubbera local Brittany Kugel moving away from home, to finish Year 11 and 12, was challenging.
"It was something I had to do in order to get a better education," she said.
Brittany wants to go on to study nursing and midwifery at the University of Sunshine Coast once she completes Year 12.
She said she believed regional areas like Mundubbera were often forgotten about when it comes to higher education.
"It angers me in a way just because our numbers and statistics are lower, we are forgotten about," she said.
"Our issue is we are not making (students) aware of stuff available, we aren't showing them that there are so many possibilities."
Brittany said even extra-curricular opportunities such as the YMCA Youth Parliament, which she participated in, were not advertised well in the regions.
"I found it through a Google search and it helped me grow as a person," she said.
"If you get involved you bring that all back into that community again.
"Everyone has the potential to go further; we just need to help people."
Brittany said she had a passion to help people and wants to help build health systems in third-world countries.
