Wright out in the quarters

LENNOX HEAD surfer Owen Wright had a disappointing finish to his Rip Curl Pro Search campaign, finishing equal ninth after he was eliminated in the quarter-finals of the event in San Francisco yesterday.

After a roller-coaster week, when any remaining world championship hopes slipped through his fingers, Wright (6.40) failed to find his rhythm against tour stalwart Joel Parkinson, who won the heat with a score of 11.60.

The Rip Curl Pro Search is the second-last event on the men's ASP world tour.

The final event is on December 8 at Banzai Pipeline in Hawaii.
