Work on Childers parking spaces delayed
WORK on much-needed car parking spaces in Childers, which was to start in July, has been delayed.
Earlier in the year, Bundaberg Regional Council spokesman Tony Ricciardi said the need for additional car parking spaces had been identified by council in consultation with Childers Chamber of Commerce.
The project involves the construction of 62 sealed car parking spaces located on vacant land in Crescent St, directly behind the RSL and Hotel Childers.
"Work is yet to start as council is waiting on the delivery of stormwater pipes," Cr Ricciardi said.
"The project is due to start by the end of this month."
Cr Ricciardi said council had implemented other plans to ease the strain on Childers main street parking.
"Council has already line marked parking spots on Macrossan St, which is designed to take pressure off the main street in Childers," he said.
Childers Chamber of Commerce president John Russo said long-term additional parking was essential for the community to thrive.
"It is one of the things we have been pushing for a very long time," he said.
"And it needs to be addressed."
Bundaberg Regional Council posted this response to their website after being contacted by the NewsMail for comment on the state of parking in Childers.
