Woodgate land lease opportunity

BUNDABERG Regional Council is inviting Expressions of Interest for the use of an available portion of land and effluent from the Woodgate Wastewater Treatment Plant.

Water and Wastewater portfolio spokesman Councillor Alan Bush said this would be a great opportunity for an interested party to utilise land at the plant for certain crops.

"The 45 hectare area proposed to be leased is connected to the recycled water from the treatment plant and would be suitable for non-food crops such as silviculture, forestry and carbon sequestration projects," Cr Bush said.

"Through the EOI process we hope to identify a suitable user for the area and the effluent available for reuse."

Council is recommending a 10-year lease with the option to further the agreement for another 10 years.

"The approved lease holder will be responsible for the operation and maintenance of the area under lease," Cr Bush said.

Interested parties can phone council's environmental technical officer Brett Kronk on 1300 883 699.
