Woman refuses sex, boyfriend splits her lip

A GLADSTONE man, who split the lip of his long term girlfriend with a nasty slap when she refused his sexual advances, was told by a court magistrate that he must treat her with love and respect.

Magistrate Jeffrey Clarke criticised the man's behaviour saying a child was also exposed to some of the violence.

The 30-year-old pleaded guilty in Gladstone Magistrates Court to contravening a Domestic Violence Order in February.

Prosecutor Sgt Barry Stevens said police were called to the home at 10pm.

A woman told them she said "No" when the man wanted sex. He then lay behind her on a couch attempting to be intimate and despite her saying no, continued his attempts.

Sgt Stevens said the man got offended by a comment she made, stood up, and slapped her. The slap split her lip and the woman pushed him away.

Defence lawyer Cassandra Ditchfield said the man is now single.

Mr Clarke placed the man under the supervision of Corrective Services on a two-year probation order.
