Woman wins $40K on breakfast show

NOT only did Bundaberg woman Rosemary Badger wake up $40,000 richer, but she quickly became the talk of live television following her on-air gaffe on the popular Sunrise morning show.

Mrs Badger had been furiously entering two different cash competitions - one with Channel Seven's Sunrise Cash Cow and the other with the Channel Nine Today Show's Great Cash Giveaway.

"On Channel Nine you have to answer the phone, 'I wake up with Today'," she said.

"On Channel Seven, you just have to (SMS) their codeword, which was 'lucky'."

So when the phone rang at her Targo St home at 6.15am, Mrs Badger decided not to take any chances and picked up the phone in a sing-song voice and said, "I wake up with Today".

And it's no surprise Mrs Badger received the shock of her life when she heard Sunrise co-host David Koch chuckling down the phone line.

"Kochie said, 'Rosemary, you've got the wrong channel'," she laughed.

"But because it was the right code word when I entered, it was fine."

Mrs Badger is no expert at entering competitions - she only had her first taste of it on Thursday after finding out about the daily cash competitions.

"Once I started dialling, I couldn't stop - I was addicted," she said.

"I entered each channel 10 times."

Within 24 hours, Mrs Badger had cleaned up the $40,000 cash prize, which she has already planned to spend on herself and husband Brandon.

"I am going to buy a car and I'm going to pay for my and my husband's burial plots so the kids don't have to fork out," she said.

A new flat-screen TV for their home and a possible cruise are also on the cards.

But for the time being, Mrs Badger will stand guard by the phone just in case Channel Seven's rival network should drop her a line.

"I still haven't won the one on Channel 9," she said.
