Woman and infant found dead in Sydney house

TWO bodies found in a home at Campsie in Sydney's south-west are those of a 29-year-old woman and her 17-month-old daughter, police say.

Officers were called to the property on Fitzroy Street around 2:30pm after a family member made the discovery.

Detective Superintendent Michael McLean said the woman was pronounced dead at the scene. Emergency crews tried to resuscitate the 17-month-old girl, but she died on arrival at St George's Hospital.

"A number of police who attended the scene drove [in] the ambulance to hospital and assisted in the treatment of the child on the way to hospital," he said.

"They're clearly devastated and traumatised by what occurred."
