Woman airlifted after breathing difficulties

A WOMAN has been airlifted from Lady Elliott Island after she suffered breathing difficulties while snorkelling today.

The RACQ LifeFlight Rescue helicopter was called to the island about 12.30pm after the woman was reportedly pulled from the water.

It's understood she began to encounter difficulties while snorkelling causing her to swallow sea water.

Once on scene, the LifeFlight clinical crew treated the woman at the scene.

She was then flown to Hervey Bay Hospital in a stable condition for further treatment.
