Why all the hate for NRL?
Ant's slant
I HAVE a lot of mates who prefer AFL to the NRL.
And they are Queenslanders too.
I even played junior rugby league at the Maroochydore Swans with one of them.
And these are guys who have never played Australian rules.
I am someone who can appreciate just about any contact sport which is why I am a fan of the AFL and the NRL.
To be honest, I know much more about rugby league, but I can be heard yelling just as loudly for the Brisbane Lions as the Maroons.
But my open-mindedness is not reciprocated among my AFL mates.
They hate the NRL and there is no budging them.
Most of my NRL-mad mates are the same as me.
They can appreciate Australian rules for what it is.
I actually got into a heated Facebook exchange with a buddy last week after he went on a social media tirade about what a useless commentator he thought Ray Warren was.
I told him AFL players looked like they put hair product in on game day for which he hit back saying NRL players didn't use deodorant.
Thought-provoking stuff.
But seriously, why all the hate from AFL supporters for NRL.
I don't see such hatred from NRL supporters towards their AFL counterparts.
Put simply, both games are capable of producing breath-taking brilliance, but in different ways.
The two sports are so vastly different they cannot be compared.
So just enjoy both codes for what they are.
