Former Mackay business owner arrested in Gold Coast

WESTERN Australia's most wanted criminal with ties to Mackay was arrested on the Gold Coast this week.

The West Australian reported notorious drug trafficker Bernd Neumann wandered off during a prisoners' soccer match in Perth's southern suburbs in February last year.

Neumann used to own a refrigeration business in Mackay - he also goes under the surname of Recker.

He was arrested at a shopping centre at Reedy Creek in the Gold Coast hinterland by Queensland police Thursday morning.

He pleaded guilty in court to two charges of failing to appear on stealing charges in the late 1990s.

The other three charges related to producing a dangerous drug, possession of a dangerous drug and possession of a thing used in the commission of a crime.

In court yesterday, Neumann was remanded in custody to reappear on November 12.

No mention was made of any possible extradition to WA.
