Waves roll over Bargara in Bundaberg final
ACROSS The Waves Division 1 skipper Jason Andrewartha sat on the memory of losing the 2014 Bundaberg district pennants final to Bargara for 12 long months.
The thought of having Bargara celebrating at his home club rattled around in his head for a year.
And at the weekend revenge was on his mind.
Andrewartha and his teammates executed their plans perfectly and took the Div 1 crown from Bargara three rinks to two with a total winning margin of 11 shots and he enjoyed every second of the victory.
The win was Across The Waves's first in Division 1 and Andrewartha said it was pleasing to be able to get the win for his new club for the first time since moving from Tantitha Bowls Club last year.
Despite not having anyone who played poorly, Bargara slumped to the loss at the hands of Across The Waves in an entertaining after of bowls at Elliott Heads.
Across The Waves took the win in style with its skipper, Jason Andrewartha, going through the 2015 pennants season undefeated.
From the opening end Bargara knew it was in for a fight. Andrewartha's form has been sensational this year and his Across The Waves teammates followed their leader unquestioningly.
Bargara's Tim Smith described the winners as a powerful force and as a group they were too big, too fast and too strong.
After winning in 2014 Bargara was aiming high this year but faced with an opponent who had a point to prove couldn't repeat the performance from 12 months ago.
Smith said Across The Waves was ready to play from the opening end and he was unable to do much except enjoy the show.
"Across The Waves had a point to prove and they duly proved it," Smith said.
"When a team played like that there was nothing we could do.
"All we did was sit back and clapped."
In Div 2 Bargara defeated Moore Park two rinks to one while Brothers took out Div 3 by defeating Bundaberg.
Across The Waves and Bargara battled in Div 4 and after 63 end Bargara took the title in the extra ends.
Bargara won its flag for the year in Div 5 beating Childers. Burnett Club won Div 6 against ATW and East Bundaberg was too good for Bundaberg in Div 7.
Bargara plays Yeppoon and if it wins, Gladstone this weekend to make it into the last eight teams in Queensland.
