IT WAS a call-out veteran snake catcher David Wiedman could only describe as "interesting".

The owner of Toowoomba Snake Catchers 24/7 has made another incredible catch of an eastern brown snake, measuring more than two metres.

Mr Wiedman caught the snake from within a retaining wall at a Mount Lofty property yesterday, with his trainee Jerome assisting him.

What made the call-out unusual was Jerome found himself in the thick of the action pretty quickly.

"When I went looking for the bushes, the snake was right behind me. We could hear it but it went straight into the retaining wall," he said.

"Jerome was down the bottom looking at the second level and I spotted it out of the corner of my eye.

"I went for it and it swung out at Jerome. It was a couple of centimetres from his face.

"It was a very interesting call-out that one."

January has proved to be a hectic start to Mr Wiedman's year, with an average of eight call-outs a day over the last week.

He said the hot temperatures and humidity had forced snakes to search for shade and water.

"I've had close to eight call-outs a day. Last Friday and Saturday I had 25 over the two days. We started at 6am one day and didn't finish until 11pm," he said.

"They're looking for water, so if you've got a dog's water bowl they can taste it."

Mr Wiedman reminded residents to keep an eye on the snake but warned not to approcah to ensure a high rate of capture.
