WATCH: 1770 offers insights into indigenous life

A NEW theatrical tour offering insights into the traditional indigenous way of life is about to launch in Seventeen Seventy.

Goolimbil Walkabout Tour in the Eurimbula National Park will start next month and is the first of its kind in the Southern Great Barrier Reef region.

The tour will take visitors on a journey through coastal bushland, mangrove wetland and into rainforest with Gooreng Gooreng guide Congrad Ingra.

Mr Ingra will perform the role of hunter gatherer and guide showing tourists how indigenous people lived off the land before the arrival of the first fleet.

Owner and operator from 1770 LARC! Neil Mergard has been working in the tourism industry for 30 years and said there was no indigenous tour product between Brisbane and Townsville.

"This is something I have wanted to do for a long time," Mr Mergard said.

"We've finally been able to realise that dream and put together an experience I think our visitors will be delighted with."

The new tour has the blessing of Gooreng Gooreng elder Merv Johnson who said the tour would give visitors a unique insight into the rich Aboriginal history within Central Queensland.

Goolimbil Walkabout Tours begin July 3 at $85 per person, $45 per child.
