Warwick duo cap off school year with OP1 honours

YOU'D be forgiven for thinking you were seeing double.

Jacob Stiles and Lachlan Fowles both studied the same six subjects in their final year of school at Scots PGC.

Jacob was named Dux of the school by an incredibly narrow margin from Lachlan.

Both students have engineering ambitions.

And the pair were both shocked after receiving the news of their OP1 honours after the big reveal of results yesterday.

Jacob said he found out the good news when most people had been asleep for hours.

"I got a text from a friend who said they received their result, so I checked mine at 1am," Jacob said.

"I was pretty tired but excited at the same time. I was not expecting a one, so it was a happy surprise."

As it turns out, Lachlan didn't need to set an alarm to wake up early for his result.

"I was lying in bed yesterday, and my sister was yelling after she found out she got an OP2," Lachlan said.

"It woke me up and then I checked.

"I'm honestly pretty surprised. I was reasonably confident of getting an OP6, so when I saw my result, it was quite unbelievable."

Both young achievers have their eyes set on making the journey to Brisbane to study at the University of Queensland.

"I really like solving problems. I don't like sitting behind a desk all the time, and engineering is the right fit," Jacob said.

"In grade 10 I thought it was a fun idea. I have a friend currently doing the course, and that has been helpful.

"As much as I love Warwick, I'm keen to try something new."

As for Lachlan, he has his eyes set on his future ambitions in the sky.

"I want to get into aerospace. This first year is a common course, then it becomes specialised," Lachlan said.

"Boeing have recently become partners with UQ, which is quite a promising sector."
