Wallabies have one eye on Uruguay
WALLABIES head coach Michael Cheika has named seven World Cup debutants for Thursday morning's match against Fiji in Cardiff.
Forwards Scott Sio, Kane Douglas, Scott Fardy and Michael Hooper have been included alongside backs Bernard Foley, Tevita Kuridrani and Israel Folau for the clash.
Stephen Moore will captain the side in his 97th Test, the first time a hooker has led the Wallabies into battle at a World Cup.
Scrumhalf Will Genia returns to the run-on side for the first time since injuring his knee in the Wallabies' 24-20 win over South Africa in the opening match of the Rugby Championship in Brisbane in July. Genia will partner Bernard Foley in the halves, with Nick Phipps, Matt Toomua and Kurtley Beale the potential replacements on the bench.
Cheika (pictured) said the team had been named with one eye on the next game against Uruguay, with none of the starters against Fiji expected to back-up, given the four-day turnaround.
"It's important to give everyone an opportunity early on. We've done that throughout our lead-up to this tournament and I believe it's a good way to go," he said, adding he identified improvements in Fiji's set piece as one area the Wallabies coaching staff had focused on in preparations for the match.
