Walk with the animals at Alexandra

THE baby animals are back in town for the school holidays, with Old Macdonald’s Farm returning to the Alexandra Park Zoo for the next week.

Three-year-old Kai Ryan was keen to take a look at all the young farm animals on display.

“I like the lambs and patting them,” he said.

Kai’s mum, Lisa Ryan, said the family tried to visit the petting zoo when the animals visited Bundaberg during the school holidays.

“They love petting the animals and they are different from what they are used to with a dog or cat,” she said.

Old Macdonald’s Farm owner Peter Blake said there were just a few things they asked of the children when in the pens.

“Don’t pick them up and we try to tell them not to put their fingers in the animals’ mouths,” he said.

Mr Blake and his wife, Kelly, from Gin Gin, only recently bought the baby animal farm.

The week at the Alexandra Park Zoo is the couple’s first tour.

Animals at the petting zoo include kids (of the goat, not human, variety), lambs, piglets, ducklings and a calf.

For 50 cents, a cup of feed can be bought to give to the animals, and children are also allowed to groom the animals with the brushes provided.

Old Macdonald’s Farm will be open every day from 9am to 3pm until Sunday, January 10.
