Youth encouraged to vote

THE Labor candidate for Hinkler has encouraged young people to vote in the coming federal election.

Belinda McNeven and Special Minister of State Senator Joe Ludwig visited Bundaberg on Monday with a special focus on delivering their voting message to the city's youth.

Senator Ludwig took the occasion to accuse the Opposition of failing to support legislation that would enable more people to vote at the next election.

He said the Opposition had refused to support a Bill that would have reinstated the seven-day close of rolls period during which people could enrol or update their details.

“I encourage everyone to make sure they are on the electoral roll so that they can make their voice heard on election day,” Ms McNeven said.
