Volunteers sought for ocean race

VOLUNTEERS have been encouraged to come out of the woodwork and make their way to the Moore Park Surf Lifesaving headquarters to help organise a new ocean race for the region.

The event would feature 1km and 2km swims and would coincide with the Moore Park Beach Festival of Arts on August 22.

The plan has been spearheaded by Moore Park Beach Lifesaving Club junior activities officer Julie Davis, who is calling on others to lend their support.

“There's nothing else like this around and it's something that I believe would really benefit the region,” she said.

“Similar events pull in huge numbers of spectators and competitors and we think it's time we had our own.”

The event would be for competitors aged 14 years to adults.

Those wanting to help organise the inaugural event can contact Davis on 41598909.
