VMR Bundaberg annual Family Fishing Classic starts today

VMR Bundaberg will host its annual Family Fishing Classic today until Sunday at Burnett Heads.

There are more than $58,000 in prizes and lucky draws.

The Saturday major lucky draw prize is a Quintrex 390 Explorer boat and trailer with a 30hp Suzuki outboard, valued at $9000.

The Sunday major lucky draw prize is side console Quintrex 420 Renegade boat and trailer with a 40hp Suzuki valued at $17,900.

The Junior lucky draw prize is a kayak from Burnett Heads Marina. Lucky draws are open to all who register, not just the folk who fish.

Other lucky draw and quick raffle prizes include VHF radios, computer equipment, tool kits, a welder, a bar fridge, boating accessories, Marlin lifejackets, a kayak, Eskys, marine batteries, a marine radio stereo, swags and other great prizes.

Major raffle ticket prizes include a MIG welder from the Bolt Place, three nights at Rainbow Waters Holiday Park and a 45L cool box from EvaCool.

Fishing prizes will be awarded for the overall heaviest fish for defined species for Juniors and Seniors in live and dead catch categories.

While we expect the off-shore and estuary specialists will be lining up for their annual competition, there are still great opportunities for juniors to have fun and share in the estuary prizes, which includes the catch and release species.

Classic organiser Graeme Morley said "we believe the VMR Family Fishing Classic is now firmly established as a quality family event, as registrations have grown steadily from 465 in 2006 to about 1300 for the last three years, with increasing support from outside the immediate Bundaberg area.

The success of the event is underpinned by great community support and the ongoing commitment of sponsors.

Hot food will be available throughout the event, with a licenced bar and musical entertainment.

Fishing starts from 6am today.

The full program with details of prize categories, rules and regulations and a registration form are available at http://www.vmrbundabergfishingclassic.com.au.

Information and registration forms are also available at the VMR Base and from fishing and marine outlets in Bundaberg, Bundaberg Broadcasters or contact Graeme on 0417 734825.
