Three-hour ordeal for Virgin passengers

A VIRGIN Australia plane has spent hours circling over Brisbane after its tyre burst on take-off.

After about three hours, the Perth bound plane landed safely back in Brisbane after a blown tyre, with passengers scheduled to fly back to Perth today.

Virgin Australia have this morning released a statement saying the incident was due to an engineering issue.

"The safety of our guests and crew is always our utmost priority," a Virgin Australia spokesman said.

"Due to to an engineering issue, VA474 from Brisbane to Perth returned to Brisbane yesterday evening. As a result of this issue, we unfortunately needed to cancel this flight.

"Overnight accommodation was provided for guests as required and all guests have been moved to an alternate service from Brisbane to Perth today.

"We're very sorry to our guests for the inconvenience caused and we will have them safely on their journey as soon as possible."
