Vickery set for move to Hawks

AFL: Ty Vickery is poised to become the first player heading to a new club as a free agent in 2016.

The league's free-agency period starts today, ahead of the frenzy that will be the trade period, commencing on Monday.

The Richmond tall has already accepted to a three-year deal to join Hawthorn, which is needing a replacement for Jarryd Roughead while he battles cancer.

Because the 26-year-old is a restricted free agent, the Tigers do have the option of matching the Hawks' offer.

"If we're going to see Ty Vickery become a good AFL player, I think his best shot is being at Hawthorn, being at a club like that where they absolutely demand the best,” former Geelong forward Cam Mooney told SEN radio.

Vickery headlines a list of available free agents, also including Nathan Brown and Jarryd Blair (Collingwood), Chris Mayne and Zac Clarke (Fremantle), Daniel Wells (North), Dennis Armfield (Carlton) and Courtenay Dempsey (Essendon).
