Vandal defaces dog lover’s public memorial, steals balls

A GESTURE of goodwill has been destroyed by vandals.

Yvonne J'Daniels is devastated that someone armed with a black marker defaced her memorial to her german shepherd Dakoda.

The homage at Buddina Beach to her beloved pooch gained huge community support after the Daily's front page story yesterday.

The memorial included photos of Dakoda, a bucket of tennis balls and a note which read: "Please help yourself to a tennis ball for your dog to enjoy. You may wish to pop it back in the box afterwards for another dog to enjoy.''

The sign has had the words "on leash area" written on it and the bucket of balls has been stolen.

The council website says the beach access areas of 198 to 201 are off-leash.

The memorial was positioned near access 205. Miss J'Daniels said the off-leash or on-leash debate was not the point of the sign.
