US turns to Mickelson for Presidents Cup

PHIL Mickelson will be teeing off for the 23rd consecutive time for the United States when it takes on the Internationals in the Presidents Cup later this month.

The 47-year-old contested the first tournament in 1994 and has represented his country in both Presidents and Ryder cups ever since.

Along with Charley Hoffman, Mickelson has been selected as a captain's pick by Steve Stricker.

The US has won nine of the 11 Presidents Cup matches, with one tie, and will be heavily favoured for victory when the 12th edition tees off on September 28 at Liberty National in New Jersey.

Scott Hend missed out on joining fellow Aussies Jason Day, Marc Leishman and Adam Scott in the Internationals team.

Captain Nick Price instead selected Anirban Lahiri of India for a second time and Emiliano Grillo of Argentina.
