IT MIGHT have started with a joke about Ben and Jerry's but Childers gourmet ice cream company Mammino's yesterday got a plug in a room full of Brisbane business people.

Queensland Environment Minister Andrew Powell has previously publicly denounced the American company for supporting WWF's "propaganda save the reef campaign".

When asked, teasingly, during a Queensland Media Club lunch whether he liked to relax with a tub of Ben and Jerry's ice cream, Mr Powell said he would not let that brand touch his lips.

"No. As many people would know it's with Mammino's ice cream," he said.

"A loveable local home-grown Queensland product made out of a small backyard facility in Childers."
