Missing fisherman's boat found capsized in Coast waters

UPDATE 1.20PM: THE boat of missing fisherman Paul Brazier has been found capsized in the water north west of Rooney Point.

 A Queensland Police spokesman said the search for the Hervey Bay man continued. 

"We are currently working to bring the boat to a location so we can flip it and inspect it for more information," he said. 

"We are still hoping to find the man.

"Currently there are four police boats, VMR boats, a helicopter and a fixed-wing aircraft still searching the area."

UPDATE 10AM: The air and sea search for a missing Hervey Bay man has recommenced after is was suspended overnight.

Paul Brazier departed Urangan Boat Harbour around 1.30pm on Monday, May 25, for an overnight fishing trip.

The Chronicle understands he had planned to return Wednesday afternoon.

A search was commenced yesterday afternoon and failed to locate Paul or his boat.

Today's search, coordinated by Hervey Bay Water Police, includes Bundaberg and Hervey Bay Volunteer Marine Rescue volunteers, a helicopter and fixed-wing aircraft. It will focus on waters off Hervey Bay and Fraser Island.

Paul is described as Caucasian in appearance, 177cm tall, of a proportionate build with red crew cut hair, beard and moustache.

His boat is a white 2002 Yalta 5.4 metre half-cabin powerboat bearing registration NE852Q.

Anyone who may have seen Paul or his boat is urged to contact police.

EARLIER: The search for a missing boatie will continue at first light on Thursday.

Police have advised the man's boat is a white 2002 Yalta 5.4m half cabin powerboat.

The man is described as Caucasian, about 177cm tall, of proportionate build, red crew cut hair with a beard and moustache.

Anyone who has seen the boat or the man is urged to contact police.

EARLIER: An air and sea sea search is underway for a Hervey Bay boatie who went fishing on Monday afternoon and has failed to return.

A police spokesman said the 37-year-old man had left Urangan boat ramp on a 5.4m vessel, with family members becoming concerned when he didn't come home.

According to reports, the man was intending to go out on an overnight fishing trip.

But he had not returned by Wednesday, sparking the search. 

His family reported his disappearance to police, who are coordinating the search.

The police spokesman said Volunteer Marine Rescue Hervey Bay, a rescue helicopter from Bundaberg and a fisheries vessel were involved in the search.

He said if any boaties came across the man or noticed anything unusual, they could report it to Policelink on 131 444.
