Union forum features Bundaberg council candidates

A COMMUNITY forum was held by The Services Union at the Bundaberg Bowls Club last Thursday featuring Bundaberg Regional Council mayoral and councillor candidates.

Bundaberg MP Leanne Donaldson attended and asked the candidates how willing and prepared they were to work with all levels of government.

The recurring theme from candidates included no more contracting out, support for local jobs, and the important of conditions to make a productive workforce.

Secretary of The Services Union Neil Henderson said council management had tried to axe working conditions and introduce a two-tiered wage system which would have disadvantaged new employees.

"This is why The Services Union is seeking commitments from council candidates to protect existing employment conditions for all current and future employees through collective bargaining because our members are taking a very active interest in this election," he said.
