Crews respond to suspicious fires burning near Coonarr

UPDATE 2.40PM: RURAL Fire Services acting area director Phil Williams said the grass fire near the North Bundaberg State High School had been extinguished but crews were responding to further incidents.

"There's been further fires over near the river in North Bundaberg. Three crews are in attendance there," he said.

"And we've had three suspicious lit down around Dr May's Crossing Rd that crews are combatting now.

"At this stage there's no houses under threat and we have to a helicopter air bomber on the scene to slow the fire and protect the property."

EARLIER: QUEENSLAND Fire and Emergency Services crews are working to contain two vegetation fires burning in the Coonarr area.

There is no threat to property at this time.

One crew is on scene and another six are on the way to a fire near Coonarr Rd and Dr Mays Crossing Rd, Calavos.

An aircraft has been dispatched to water bomb the fires.

There is smoke in the area and motorists should drive with caution and to conditions.

Residents are asked to close windows and doors and if suffering from a respiratory condition, keep medications close by.

If residents are concerned their property is under threat they are advised to call 000 immediately.
