Crash on Bourbong - 8 Feb 2015

Two smashes within minutes on Bourbong St

A DAD heading to Brisbane to see his newborn has ended up in hospital with whiplash before making it out of Bundaberg.

The smash happened about 2pm at the intersection of Bourbong and Bingera Sts.

A white Mazda ute, a black Mitsubishi and a white Toyota Corolla were involved in the smash.

Bundaberg Police Sergeant Michael Prickett said the cause was still being investigated.

Not long after crews arrive on scene, Sgt Prickett said, a second smash occurred.

Onlookers at the scene described the second incident as being caused "rubber necking", with one of the drivers appearing to be focused on the first smash.

Sgt Prickett said the driver who caused the second smash was issued with a traffic infringement for following too close.

"It would have occurred because they weren't paying attention because they might have been looking at the police investigating the first accident," he said.

Sgt Prickett said it was an avoidable smash.

"Drivers are always reminded to pay attention at all times, especially when passing an accident," he said.

"As other drivers may also not be paying attention and there may be stoppages in traffic."
