Two quakes hit Wellington area within an hour

NEW Zealand has been rocked by two earthquakes in the Wellington region within an hour today.

Earthquake monitoring site Geonet recorded a 4.9 quake at 11.10 am, and a second quake of 4.2 at 11.55am.

Both quakes were pinpointed as 30km west of Seddon.

The early quake was at a depth of 16km and the later one at 18km.
