Two in court after assault

A MAN was in serious condition in hospital last night after he was allegedly hit over the head early yesterday.

Bundaberg Police Sergeant Grant Marcus said the 31-year-old Blackwater man was left unconscious after allegedly being assaulted in Woondooma Street, near the Queenslander Hotel, about 2am.

“Police were called to a fight on the street and located an unconscious man,” Sgt Marcus said.

“He was taken to Bundaberg Hospital by the Queensland Ambulance Service while detectives from the Bundaberg Criminal Investigation Branch conducted inquiries.”

Bundaberg Police CIB Detective Senior Constable Scott Nicol said hospital staff were still running tests to determine the extent of the man’s injuries.

“He may need to go to Brisbane (for specialist care),” he said.

Snr Const Nicol said after interviewing a number of witnesses yesterday, detectives arrested and charged two male youths with causing grievous bodily harm.

“They have been held in custody to appear in court (today),” he said.

“We are also appealing to any other witnesses to come forward, who were in the Woondooma Street area about 2am (on Friday).”

Anyone with information should call Bundaberg Police on 4153 9111.
