Two men found dead off Qld coast

TWO TOWNSVILLE men aged 53 and 66 have died after a boating accident in waters off Magnetic Island.

A Queensland Police Service spokesman said the two men departed from Townsville at about 3am.

Recreational fishermen found their bodies about 9.15am near Orchard Rocks Reef.

The spokesman said initial investigations indicated the 4.5m boat struck the rocky foreshore and overturned during this morning’s high tide.

The overturned vessel was found in Arthur Bay, about 1.5 nautical miles from where the bodies were located.

Police were called to Arthur Bay about 9.30am after the bodies of two men were found in water near Orchard Rocks Reef.

An overturned vessel was also found at Magnetic Island and Water Police are working to recover the boat.

Police said there were no suspicious circumstances and investigations were ongoing into the incident.
