TV campaign to buckle-up

A CONFRONTING reminder to buckle-up while in a car hit Bundaberg region's television screens last night as a part of a statewide plea to be safe on the roads.

The Better Buckle Up campaign does not pull any punches in showing the fatal results of not wearing a seatbelt.

"The simple fact is that without a seatbelt to hold your body back, your internal organs continue travelling forwards in a crash - cracking ribs, puncturing lungs and tearing arteries," Transport Minister Annastacia Palaszczuk said.

"Yes, this advertising campaign is in your face - it has to be because seatbelts save lives and we can never overlook the fact that we need to be continually reminding all Queenslanders of that simple fact."

Ms Palaszczuk said research showed seatbelts increased a person's chance of surviving a crash by up to 50%.
