Club's helping kids

THEY might sound tough, but the Ruff 'n' Tuff Car Club has a softer side.

After hearing the plight of two young children left in the care of their grandparents after losing their mum and dad, members have stepped in to help.

Freddy James, 7, and his sister Evelyn, 5, were orphaned when their mum Danielle was killed in a car crash in Bundaberg earlier this year.

Tragically, they lost their dad to leukaemia just two years before.

In a bid to help the family, members will use their annual charity car show and swap meet to raise funds for the children.

Club secretary Bryan Hardy has appealed to the community to support the kids by coming along to family-friendly car show this weekend at the Biggenden showgrounds.

"We want to give them a hand. We thought it was a good cause to go to," he said.

"This year has a lot more response because of what we're doing it for. I hope to give them $5000 at least if we can.

"We've got the support of businesses in sponsorship, now need to get people to come and make a good day of it."

Mr Hardy said proceeds would be donated to the children's trust fund, which would give them an opportunity to access a decent education and other future needs.

The gates open from 6am Saturday for a family fun day out with markets, antique engine and car displays, a burnout competition, kids' entertainment, food stalls and more.

Overnight camping will be available with barbecue and bar facilities operating on Friday night.
