Truss blew it on Bruce Highway fix
WARREN Truss has got some chutzpah, I'll give him that.
We decided to give the Deputy Prime Minister a good chunk of Page 7 today for an opinion piece he wrote about the Bruce Hwy.
And while the sentiment of fixing the state's main highway is admirable, coming from Mr Truss it seems a bit rich.
Warren Truss has been the Member for Wide Bay - an electorate that contains the notorious Curra-to-Cooroy section of the highway - since 1990.
He held senior roles in the Howard Government, not the least of which was the transport and regional services portfolio.
Given this lengthy time in Parliament and in Government, there's no doubt he and the rest of John Howard's Government could have - and should have - done more about the Bruce before they were booted out in 2007 after nearly 12 years in office.
Therefore, forgive me, I will not be expecting too much this time around.
Not only is the Abbott Government putting the squeeze on spending, its pedigree when it comes to nation building is nothing to be proud of.
