Truck gets stuck ... again
FOR the second time in a week, a semi-trailer has become wedged under the notorious Layard St underpass at Goodna.
Police and railway officers were called out to deal with the truck about 11am yesterday and traffic was blocked in both directions.
Trains were able to pass across the overhead bridge at slow speed.
Goodna councillor Paul Tully said the truck passed several warning signs and drove through warning dongles before smashing into the bridge. He said there were similar incidents at the underpass on a constant basis.
"The government should increase fines significantly and weed cowboy operators out of the industry," he said.
Cr Tully said some of the drivers "must have got their licences out of a Corn Flakes packet".
Not surprisingly, it got plenty of reaction on Facebook.
Craig Sinden said: "Good reason why heavy vehicles shouldn't be allowed to drive in all local suburbs."
Helen Noye came to the defence of the drivers, saying: "Sometimes it isn't the truckies' fault as the road can be resurfaced, which changes the height with no change of signage."
