Truck blaze on highway at Childers

A B-DOUBLE truck was partly destroyed in a blaze on the Bruce Highway at Childers during the early hours of Saturday morning.

About 3.20am the B-double truck driver pulled into a service lane at the intersection of the Bruce Highway and Goodwood Road after experiencing mechanical problems.

The fire started in the prime mover.

Firefighters and police rushed to the scene.

Childers police Sergeant Geoff Fay said the truck was carrying NQX general freight that was not damaged during the fire.

“It would’ve gone up if it had got into the freight,” he said.

He said the highway was not blocked.

Firefighters acted quickly to extinguish the blaze and stayed with trucks to douse it for a couple of hours after the fire was put out.

Sgt Fay said the Caltex Service Station near the intersection was never in danger from the truck’s flames.

Ergon Energy was also called out because the truck was parked underneath powerlines.
