Trio dominates at bowls state titles
BOWLS: It's a national partnership that is helping a trio of stars win state titles.
Bundaberg's Nick Cahill with the help of Broad- beach's Jessie Cottell and Kawana's Rebecca Rixon have taken centre stage
at the Bowls Queensland state titles that started
The trio, combined with Shervawn Wilson, won the fours under-18 event on Monday with a 25-10 victory over Ty Jesberg, Isabella Lawson, Brittanny Wiley, Jake Rynne.
Cahill and Cottell then won the U18 pairs together with a 19-11 victory over Wilson and Isabella Lawson.
And at time of print yesterday afternoon the trio was in the final of the U18 triples after three wins during the day.
Rixon said the success came from years of playing together.
"We just complement each other basically,” she said.
"We've all played pretty good as a team, even just
in the fours and these two (Cahil and Cottell) are always good in the pairs.”
But playing together had its challenges.
The trio cannot train together because they live so far away from each other.
"We just hoped that each other practised when we are at home,” Cottell said with a laugh.
"But having that experience of going away to nationals as a team we automatically gel when we get on the green.”
Cahill agreed and said years together helped.
"We've gotten to know each other and gotten really close,” she said.
There will be more on the triples final results in tomorrow's NewsMail with singles starting in U15 and U18 today at Burnett Bowls Club and Across The Waves Bowls Club.
