Tributes flow for young Liam

FACEBOOK tributes poured for young Gladstone man Liam O'Reilly.

The Observer believes Mr O'Rielly is the 21-year-old who died in a crash north of Mt Larcom on Monday.

Mr O'Reilly's father Greg O'Reilly is the owner of Pat's Tackleworld on Lord St. The family were not in a position to comment yesterday.

In today's Gladstone Regional Council meeting Mayor Gail Sellers talked of the region's horror day on the roads on Monday.

There were four crashes on the Bruce Highway both north and south of Mt Larcom.

"Tragically one resulted in the loss of life of a young person," Cr Sellers said.

She urged residents to consider the wet weather when they drove and to drive to the conditions.

"(The Bruce Highway) is still desperately in need of major upgrading."

Cr Sellers raised the issue of whether or not more funding should be allocated to that stretch of road.

A police media release stated that a 21-year-old Gladstone man was believed to be the deceased from the serious crash when, at around 9.20am on Monday, a B-double truck carrying waste oil collided with the his vehicle that was sitting stationary in traffic backed up from an earlier crash.

Another four vehicles were also struck as a result of the crash while the truck caught fire.

The 21-year-old was the driver of the initial vehicle struck and died at the scene, while the 58-year-old male truck driver was airlifted to hospital with non-life threatening burns.

The earlier crash happened at 8.50am when a car carrier truck and a B-double truck carrying gravel collided. Neither driver was injured.

On Facebook today the tributes just kept coming as many honoured the life of a much-loved man.

"Sincere condolences to his mum Kim, his dad Greg, and his sister Casey - May you all find the inner strength to get through this devestating family loss. He loved you guys heaps and will stay firmly in your hearts. Hang on tight," one of the tributes said.

"Thinking of my family and sending them all my love, I hope we are all together soon. RIP Liam.... My cousin, my Brother, my friend. You believed in me when I couldn't believe in myself. I love you and I'll miss you," another wrote.
