Tribunal restricts Keating

THE Health Practitioners Tribunal yesterday ordered a condition be imposed on any future registration application by Darren Keating, former director of medical services, Bundaberg.

Medical board chairperson, Dr Mary Cohn, said as a result of the tribunal order Dr Keating cannot practise as a director of medical services or in any similar administrative position in any public or private hospital.

“All state and territory medical boards have been notified of this decision,” said Dr Cohn.

Dr Keating was director of medical services between 2003 and 2005, a period when Dr Jayant Patel was chief surgeon at Bundaberg Hospital.

Patel will face trial in March on 14 charges from his time at the hospital.
