Trent's passion for aviation leads to RAAF career

With a passion for aviation, Trent Blinco always knew that he wanted to pursue a career in the Royal Australian Air Force (RAAF).

The Maryborough local originally wanted to become a pilot but decided to pursue a career in engineering after enjoying maths and science in his final years of high school at St Mary's College.

The 20-year-old is currently one of two Airfield Engineer Trainees studying at the Australian Defence Force Academy (ADFA) in his year.

"I'm excited by the unique opportunities the Australian Defence Force (ADF) has to offer. No two days and no two careers are the same. There are so many unique opportunities that you would be hard-pressed to find elsewhere," Trent said.

"In July this year I was lucky enough to fly in a C-130 from Canberra to East Sale (Vic) before going out field for a bit over a week."

The combination of military training, education and skills Trent has gained from his time at ADFA will prepare him to face any challenge and perform on the world stage as a leader in the ADF.

"Outside the classroom I have immersed myself in the cardio-based sports at ADFA - swimming, running, cycling and triathlon; 2014 was a big year for me as I was the president of the ADFA Triathlon Club and participated in three marathons," Trent said.

"Next year I will be in the final year of my four-year engineering degree. I will also be living in a first-year division as a Residential Support Officer which will be interesting."

Trent looks forward to his future career as an Airfield Engineering Officer in the RAAF.

ADFA is a unique partnership between the ADF and the University of New South Wales (UNSW), providing training for the future leaders of the Navy, Army and Air Force and a world class education. Officer Cadets and Midshipmen are instilled with the Academy's guiding values of Courage, Respect, Integrity, Service and Professionalism.

The Defence Force is currently recruiting in a number of roles.  For further information on military training and study at ADFA visit defencejobs.gov.au/adfa or call 13 19 01.
