Trainers to get training

A NEW training business is set to open in Bundaberg next month to produce qualified personal trainers.

FIT College, which already has branches in Toowoomba, Maroochydore, Hervey Bay and Cairns, is set to start courses in Bundaberg starting on August 13.

Peter Winmill, teacher and assessor at FIT College Hervey Bay, said the college would offer part-time Certificate III and IV courses to train people to become qualified personal trainers.

"If people want to travel, it's a good course to do if you want to avoid bar work," Mr Winmill said.

The business in Hervey Bay has been going for more than a year and has already trained about 40 people who can now work as personal fitness trainers, gym instructors or group fitness instructors.

FIT College has teamed up with Snap Fitness to start the courses in Bundaberg, which are recognised all over the world.

"The cost for a Certificate III and IV course comes to about $3295 and can take between six to 12 months depending on the student's time constraints," Mr Winmill said.

"We are a registered training organisation."

The organisation is planning to open a permanent branch in Bundaberg if expected demand comes to fruition.

"We have already had 10 inquiries, so we expect Bundaberg will be successful," Mr Winmill said.

Some of the subjects include exercise science, gym instruction and skills in running a personal training business.

"We are going to start with the online and part-time face-to-face courses. The plan is to open a full-time branch in Bundaberg," he said.
