A YOUNG carpenter is back on his feet thanks to the generosity of strangers.

Northbuild site foreman Karl Bambosek was the victim of a callous theft earlier this year when his work trailer and tools were stolen from the locked job site on James St.

The tools were valued at more than $8000 and were a collection the 23-year-old had built up over time.

The trailer had been parked behind locked gates which the offenders had cut to get at the tools.

The theft was made worse by the fact Mr Bambosek's insurance company didn't cover the tools, only the trailer.

"The support was overwhelming," Mr Bambosek said.

"I had all these random people I don't know ringing up and giving me money and old retired carpenters giving me their tools.

"It was pretty unreal."

Mr Bambosek said his plight had encouraged his mates to check their insurance policies to ensure they were covered for all thefts.

Northbuild site manager Mick Heaney said he knew a lot of builders who had since checked their insurance coverage after Mr Bambosek's story appeared in The Chronicle in August.

"It has been a learning curve for a lot of people because a lot of people since reading that story have said they had no idea of their insurance," he said.

"They thought they were just covered."

Mr Bambosek and Mr Heaney thanked Phoenix Trailers in Brisbane for donating the new trailer, and all contributors who replaced the tools.
