FROM collectable small toys to super-soaker Nerf guns, there are a number of "must-have" gifts for children this Christmas.

Toowoomba Big W store manager Michael Drob said collectables were big this year, with children wanting new elements of their favourite toys.

One of the biggest new toys of the year is the LOL Surprise, which millions have sold world-wide with some stores even selling out.

It is a circular ball which features several layers of surprises, including clothes and accessories, that kids unravel to reveal a collectable doll.

Hatchimals was the toy every child had to have last year and it appears they're still popular, with it listed as one of the top toys again this Christmas.

Big W has seen the Christmas rush pick up every week since mid-November.

The store will be hosting sales all the way up until Christmas.
