Volleyroos score first victory

TOOWOOMBA volleyballer Travis Passier has tasted his first success as an Olympian as his men's volleyball team beat Great Britain in straight sets overnight.

The Australian Volleyroos left the host nation's fans disappointed as they dispatched Great Britain 25-15, 25-18, 25-20 in straight sets.

It was the first win of the Games for the Volleyroos after they suffered a straight sets loss in their first Pool A match.

Great Britain, ranked 92nd in the world, appeared to be world No.22 Australia's best chance of recording a win in the pool games as all other nations are ranked higher.

The Volleyroos just need one upset win from their remaining three pool matches to have a chance to progress to the quarter-finals.

They take on ninth-ranked Bulgaria in the next pool match tomorrow night.
